About

Hello! I'm Patrick Miller, the founder of Cloud Surgeon, a consulting practice focused on helping organizations dramatically reduce their Kubernetes and other cloud compute spend. After 15+ years in software engineering—including 12+ years specializing in DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering—I've seen firsthand how easily cloud costs spiral out of control, and how much money gets left on the table through simple inefficiencies.

The Problem We Solve

Most cloud compute environments are dramatically over-provisioned. Teams set generous resource requests during development, forget about them, and end up paying for capacity they never use. Meanwhile, cluster autoscalers churn through expensive on-demand instances while cheaper options sit available. We've seen organizations burning through six figures annually on infrastructure that could run at half the cost with the right configuration.

What We've Done

Cloud compute optimization is our specialty. We help engineering teams substantially reduce their cloud spend by modernizing autoscaling strategies, picking instance types that actually fit how applications behave, and right-sizing pods based on what they actually consume rather than on assumptions that stopped being true a long time ago. Done well, this kind of work pays for itself many times over, and it doesn't require a six-month engineering detour to get there.

Before specializing in this, I spent years building and operating infrastructure at scale, from the gaming industry to enterprise SaaS platforms handling millions of daily requests. I've designed and operated both legacy cloud environments and greenfield cloud-native architectures, so I understand the tradeoffs your team is weighing having been on the hook for both the cloud bill and the uptime SLA.

There's also a benefit that goes beyond the invoice. Idle and oversized infrastructure burns real electricity, which translates directly into data center emissions. Running leaner clusters means fewer wasted compute cycles, less power drawn, and a smaller carbon footprint for every workload you operate. What's good for your budget is also good for the planet.

Our Approach

We believe in measurable outcomes and knowledge transfer. When we optimize your infrastructure, you'll understand exactly what changed and why. We're not interested in creating dependency. We want to leave your team more capable than we found them.

Every engagement starts with a thorough assessment. We need to understand your workloads, traffic patterns, and operational constraints before recommending changes. Quick wins are great, but sustainable cost reduction requires understanding the full picture.

Let's Talk

If you're running Kubernetes in production and suspect you're paying more than you should, we'd be happy to chat. No pitch deck, no pressure—just a conversation about what you're seeing and whether we might be able to help.
